A Toast to Toast!

This past Labor Day weekend it was finally time to brunch at Toast, another one of those “lifestyle” breakfast places that dot the Sunday-morning landscape out here.

Toast, a “Bakery-CafĂ©” at the corner of 3rd and Harper is always bustling! Anytime you pass the place throngs of trendy LA types litter the sidewalk, dressed just so as they valet their Lamborghini or Porsches.

We didn't feel the need to be seen under the sidewalk’s shady umbrellas, instead listing ourselves as "first available" and within 20 minutes got a nice high-top table in the window. With a menu spanning breakfast, lunch and dinner and a pastry case that is to die for, we placed our orders with our attractive and attentive waiter.

Sitting near the expeditor’s window, it was interesting to see the staff “battle” to bring us our food. From the runner, to the flirtatious blond to our stocky server, our food passed through three sets of hands before reaching our table.

Joe ordered the Eggs Florentine, I had the Protein Scramble. Both were light, non-greasy and particularly tasty! I was even allowed to substitute a truly scrumptious Red Velvet cupcake instead of regular toast (so good in fact we took a Half ‘N’ Half version to go)!!!

Overall we could not have had a better experience, good food, prompt service, great people watching… I cannot wait to go back, if only to try another cupcake!!!

"Like it or not here I come!"

I felt compelled to Tivo Rosie O’Donnell’s first appearance on the 10th season opener of The View this morning, which also boasted a brand new couch-less set, decorated with flowers from Tom, and, of course, no Meredith or Star.

Talk of kids "tinkling" on the floor, tampon jokes, haircut analysis (it was "an error of epic proportions" that made children cry), the nullification of gay marriages, and mentions (and camera pans) of partner Kelly all within the first 4 minutes.

Oh and then there was a free cruise for the entire audience!

Yes, Rosie's back on daytime TV.

Over at CBS Katie Couric settled into her new role as "managing editor" of The CBS Evening News. With new segments like "freeSpeech" and "Snapshots," both seemingly directly borrowed from CBS Sunday Morning, Katie has yet to come up with a worthy "sign off" phrase, so she's lazily welcoming our input.
Didn't she have all summer to develop this?

So Who Did I See?

At this last weekend's Emmy festivities.

Pretty much no one!

After hours of set up and getting the shindigs ready I was lucky enough to be sent on my merry way. At our Globes party earlier in the year I decided that these organized group experiences don't really count as a CelebFlashes (and aren't half as fun as seeing someone at say Target).

Before leaving Saturday I did see 300lb bodybuilder Gunther Schlierkamp. But really, what the hell was this monster doing at the NBC/Universal party? OK, so he was recently in Beerfest, but even that's a Warner Bros flick. Interesting. Or not.

Getting in on Monday though the one thing I kept hearing from the girls was just how stunning Prison Break's Wentworth Miller was in person. Tall. Piercing blue eyes. Just beautiful.

Almost makes me wish he played for our team! Certainly makes me wish I'd left after he'd shown up!
