One of the saddest sights of the year is a discarded Christmas Tree bundled up and ready for the garbage men the day after Christmas. Do "you people" not know that Christmas actually lasts for 12 days?You've all heard the song yes?

All our Christmas TV programming airs in these 2 weeks after Christmas, and we keep our decorations up until Twelfth Night (it's bad luck to keep them up any longer - though there was that one year that Richard & Judy got their dates all confused - and my were their viewers upset!).

In the olden days, these 12 days were a holiday from work, a time to party, the Yule Log would burn, and people would feast on Twelfth Night Cake (which has slowly morphed over the years into Christmas Cake, a rich spicy fruit filled cake, decorated with marzipan and white icing; a cake that no one eats). Nowadays, many people still take time off, mainly to attend the New Year sales and finish up all that goddam turkey (as in turkey risotto, pie, soup, loaf, etc.). But at least Christmas isn't over as soon as the clock strikes midnight!

Well I guess you learn something new every day...I always thought it was the 12 days leading up to Christmas Day.
I really tried to wait until January 6th - but I just couldn't stand the site of the tree anymore. I had to get over Christmas and onto my new year.
OMG! We have a Christmas cake like that at the office every year. But it's cooked with rum and has Royal icing. But just the same. Yum!
And as far as I'm concerned, my tree can stay up until Valentine's Day! I LOVE Christmas!
LOL the days leading up to Christmas (well the 4 weeks actually) are called 'Advent' Heath...
I need to ditch the tree tomorrow... I am too lazy to do it today...
We always celebrated xmas more than most in my house b/c my grandfather was born on 3 King's Day or the end of the 12 days - Little Christmas as we Italians call it. :-)

We leave our Christmas tree up through most of January - it is so pretty, we just can't help it!! Plus, the thought of putting all those ornaments away - oy!
